Nafplio (Nafplion)

As the first capital of modern Greece, Nafplion has a wealth of history to offer the visitor, and not only!

Having been occupied by many invaders, each leaving their unique mark, the old town of Nafplion has a mixture of architectural styles adding to its beauty. Wander around the narrow streets of the old town and gaze at the small gift shops and curiosities or stroll along the promenade past all the bars and cafeterias, stop for a drink or a coffee, enjoy the view of the Bourtzi fortress on the small island in the harbour and maybe even take a trip on one of the small fishing boats that visit every hour.

Statues, buildings and monuments recount this living museum's rich history. A classical music festival provides the town's score.

Feeling energetic? Try a trek up the 999 steps of the Palamidi fortress that overlooks the whole town high on the hill (also accessible by car), visit the Acronafplia castle at the foot of the Palamidi, visit one of the many museums, the Military museum, the archaeological museum, the ouzo museum, the folklore museum or the worry bead museum. There are many churches to visit, all with their own character and plenty of historical monuments.

All in all Nafplion is a cosmopolitan town with a magical atmosphere which has visitors all year round. It's worth the visit!
